Our Safeguarding Practices

Our Carers are trained to have and take responsibility for the safety and wellbeing of service users and their colleagues. Safeguarding adults means protecting a person’s right to live in safety, free from abuse and neglect. Every step we take to streamline safeguarding policies is aligned to the Health and Social Care Act Care. We ensure that our service users live a life free from harm and abuse as this is their fundamental human right. All our staff receives training in this respect at induction and during progressive refresher trainings.

Every Carer is trained to have a duty of care to service users and colleagues alike. Safeguarding is everybody’s business. Carers 4 U  has policies and procedures in place that form part of the quality management system and ensure service users are safeguarded against a number of risks. These include;

Risk Management
  • To ensure that service users are safe, for each service user, an assessment is carried out on the home and the service user before we start the service.
Safeguarding

To ensure that service users are safeguarded from abuse all staff are recruited in line with recommended safeguarding procedures including:

  • Disclosure and Barring checks
  • Satisfactory references
  • Staff induction and regular training on the prevention of abuse
  • Regular monitoring of staff to ensure good practice
  • Mentoring of new staff to ensure service users safety and good practice
  • All staff are provided with training on Safeguarding
Medication
  • Service user’s medication is administered by authorized trained staff to ensure service users safety.
  • Authorized staff follow the Medication Management Policy.
  • The manager responds to National Patient Safety Agency alerts.
  • Medication updates are carried out and there is a procedure in place for the recording and acting upon medication errors.
Premises and Safety Equipment
  • There is a record of all equipment used by service users in the care plan.
  • Staff carries out regular visual safety checks prior to use of equipment.
  • Staff report any problems with equipment which is withdrawn from use until repaired.
Security

There is a security procedure in place that is followed by staff which addresses the following:

  • Security of service user’s homes.
  • Handling of Service Users Money
  • Handling Valuable Items

Carers 4 U Ltd takes responsibility to follow the safeguarding principles enshrined within the Care Act and thus, measures are enforced to protect our service users against the abuses or neglects like; Physical abuse, Sexual abuse, Psychological abuse, Financial or material abuse, Neglect, and acts of omission, self-neglect and Discriminatory abuse.

No person shall be excluded from participation in, or denied the benefits of our services or be subjected to discrimination because of race, colour, national origin, religion, age, disability or gender.
